Yoshi and the Mysterious Book marks a new entry in the long-running Yoshi franchise, now released on Nintendo Switch 2. The puzzle-focused game originated as a Nintendo Switch title before ultimately moving to the newer hardware, allowing the development team to leverage the increased processing power to realize their full vision.

The project emerged partly from the influence of recent Mario films, according to Shigeru Miyamoto. Developer interviews have shed light on the game's evolution, including design decisions around difficulty and character mechanics - Yoshi was originally conceived to take damage during early development phases. The team has also discussed benefiting from Switch 2's capabilities in ways the original hardware wouldn't have supported, fundamentally shaping the final product.
