Super Monkey Ball

Developer Amusement Vision Publisher Sega

Super Monkey Ball launched on GameCube in early 2001 as a colorful marble-rolling action game. Two decades later, the title continues to capture developer interest in unexpected ways.

The franchise has recently become a testing ground for creative reinterpretations. A fan-made mod called Super Monkey Ball Redux is overhauling and expanding content from the original games, with a demo available now and a full release planned for Spring 2027. Meanwhile, a separate project called Marble Souls takes the core concept in a different direction entirely - applying the ball-rolling mechanics through a Dark Souls-inspired lens of difficulty and atmosphere, launching on Steam this year. Both projects signal the enduring appeal of the original's simple but compelling premise.
