About
Baseball is an early 2-player arcade baseball simulation. Played from a single fixed screen, one player controls the home team, while the other controls the visiting team.
What is happening now
Baseball on the Odyssey 2 represents an early entry in the sport simulation category, released in 1978. However, most current coverage centers on modern takes on the sport across different platforms and media. Backyard Baseball, a reimagining of the 1990s PC classic, is getting a new life on Nintendo Switch through a collaboration between Mega Cat Studios and Playground Games, with a July release window announced. Reception has been mixed - while reviewers note the developers assembled a solid foundation, the execution falls somewhat short of expectations. Meanwhile, Apple has expanded its Vision Pro offerings with live MLB coverage through Friday Night Baseball, providing an immersive angle for subscribers. The broader baseball gaming landscape also includes statistical-focused takes on the sport and licensed merchandise extending into other categories.
