What is happening now
Squadron 42 is Cloud Imperium Games' single-player space combat campaign set within the Star Citizen universe, targeting PC release in June 2027. The title has become something of a running joke in gaming circles, having originally been planned for 2015 before accumulating numerous delays over the years. The latest postponement pushes the game into 2027, with CEO Chris Roberts citing competition from Grand Theft Auto VI's release window as a factor in the decision. Coverage suggests this represents yet another delay in a long history of missed deadlines for the project, which has generated considerable skepticism about its actual development progress given Star Citizen's controversial history of extensive crowdfunding. Recent rumors indicate a content creator preview event may be scheduled for October, though specifics remain unconfirmed.
