Story

Told as a memory recounted by a grown man, the story follows a young boy who wakes disoriented in the crumbling ruins of a vast, ancient valley known as the Nest, with no memory of how he arrived. There he finds Trico, an enormous creature that is part bird and part mammal, chained and wounded. Though the beast is wary and frightened at first, the boy earns its trust by pulling the spears from its body and bringing it food, and a fragile bond forms between them. Together the unlikely pair set out to escape the labyrinth of towers, bridges, and caverns, relying on Trico's great strength and the boy's cleverness to survive the dangers that haunt the ruins.

What is happening now

The Last Guardian is a platform-adventure puzzle game that released on PlayStation 4 in December 2016. The title marks the latest entry in a lineage that includes ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, all sharing a distinctive artistic vision centered on environmental puzzles and atmospheric storytelling. Recently, publisher iam8bit announced a vinyl reissue campaign for the franchise. Alongside a new Ocean Wave vinyl pressing of the ICO soundtrack - featuring over 40 tracks by composers pentagon and Michiru Oshima - the company is restocking vinyl editions for both Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, making physical soundtrack versions available again to collectors and fans of the series' distinctive soundscapes.
