Story

The story takes place on Kairos, a planet whose location was revealed to the wider galaxy when Pandora's moon Elpis was teleported across space in an event known as Moonfall. Six years later, a new generation of Vault Hunters arrives on Kairos, drawn by the promise of the fabled Vault and the secret alien treasures it is said to hold. Standing in their way is the Timekeeper, a ruthless dictator who rules the planet with an army of synthetic followers called the Order. Among the arriving Vault Hunters are Rafa the Exo-Soldier, Harlowe the Gravitar, Amon the Forgeknight, and Vex the Siren. Thrust into a world under tyranny, they join forces with the Crimson Resistance to rise up against the Timekeeper and uncover the mysteries buried beneath Kairos.

What is happening now

Borderlands 4 is a looter-shooter action-RPG that launched in September 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. The game builds on the series' signature gunplay and chaotic gameplay loop while refining mechanics from its predecessor. Since launch, Gearbox has maintained a steady cadence of DLC releases. Bounty Pack 4: Murders and Acquisitions arrived in July 2026, introducing fresh loot tied to warring Ripper gangs, while Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort is scheduled for September, bringing a new playable Vault Hunter alongside narrative content. A separate Vault Pack 4 is also planned for the same window. Despite some mixed fan reception at launch, Take-Two leadership has publicly reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the title long-term, stating the game's performance hasn't affected future plans or the promised Year 2 roadmap.
