About
Theme Hospital is a business simulation game developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts in 1997, in which the player designs and operates a hospital. Like most of Bullfrog's games, Theme Hospital is permeated by an eccentric sense of humour. The game is the thematic successor to Theme Park, a game also produced by Bullfrog. The game was a massive commercial success, selling over 4 million copies worldwide.
What is happening now
Theme Hospital is a 1997 management simulator where players construct and run their own medical facilities, balancing budgets, staff, and patient care while treating increasingly absurd fictional ailments. The game remains playable today largely through CorsixTH, an open-source engine recreation that recently reached version 0.70 with improved UI scaling and accessibility options, keeping the classic accessible to modern systems. Two Point Studios' spiritual successor series continues to celebrate Bullfrog's legacy. Following Two Point Hospital's homage to the original, the studio is now venturing further back with upcoming DLC that takes inspiration from Theme Park, another Bullfrog classic. The announcement suggests Two Point's commitment to honoring the publisher's historical catalog while building its own management sim brand.
