Story
The world is crumbling. The Swarm has corrupted the Coalition’s robot army and is descending upon human cities. With danger closing in, Kait Diaz breaks away to uncover her connection to the enemy and discovers the true danger to Sera – herself.
What is happening now
Gears 5 is a third-person shooter released in 2019 across Xbox and PC platforms, continuing The Coalition's work on the franchise following the previous mainline entry. Recent coverage has focused on how the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day prequel will differ from Gears 5, examining the gameplay, narrative, and design choices that set the two titles apart. While E-Day represents a new direction for the series rather than a direct sequel, the comparison underscores Gears 5's place as the current entry point for players looking to experience the franchise's modern iteration.
