Marathon

Marathon is Bungie's extraction shooter that launched in March 2026 to a rocky reception. The developer has since outlined an ambitious roadmap to reshape the experience, moving beyond its extraction-focused origins toward a more integrated vision connecting PvE, PvP, and PvEvP modes. The overhaul includes a new alien-filled zone called the Perimeter, revamped onboarding and progression systems, and a social hub to anchor the community.

The studio has been methodical about rolling out changes through 2027, beginning with a Nightfall Refresh in October, followed by the Symbiosis update in December, with further substantial additions planned for March. Bungie's messaging suggests the publisher recognizes Marathon's struggles since launch and is committed to fundamental design shifts rather than incremental patches. Whether these shifts will stabilize the playerbase remains a central question for the title's viability heading into the critical months ahead.
