Amazon's New World launched as an ambitious MMO in 2021 but has struggled to maintain player engagement over the past several years. The company has now effectively stepped away from the MMO space, handing off its other live-service titles Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty to their original developers rather than continuing to operate them internally. The game itself has faded from active development and community focus, with coverage now dominated by other titles that happen to share "New World" in their names - Soul Land: New World adapts a popular Chinese novel, while Level-5's Professor Layton and the New World of Steam promises a story-driven puzzle experience.
