Adaptations 2023

About

Adaptations is an action platformer that launched on PC, Linux, and web in February 2023. The game's title proves prescient given the current landscape of game-to-screen projects, which have become a major industry conversation. Recent coverage focuses less on the game itself and more on the broader adaptation phenomenon it shares a name with - particularly debates around how film and TV projects should handle source material. Industry figures like Christopher Judge have criticized adaptations for sidelining original game creators, while filmmakers argue for contributing meaningfully to existing lore rather than simply replicating it. Meanwhile, various gaming franchises continue securing deals for their own adaptations, from RWBY to Gears of War, suggesting the trend shows no signs of slowing.
