What is happening now
Defender of the Crown is a 1986 strategy-adventure that became a landmark title for the Amiga, blending cinematic presentation with medieval conquest gameplay. Originally developed by Cinemaware with distinctive pixel art and composition, it established a template for visually ambitious strategy games and saw releases across numerous platforms throughout the late 80s and early 90s. Four decades on, the game is experiencing a renaissance through The Legend Returns, a modernized remaster from Black Tower Basement and Nordcurrent Labs. The project aims to preserve the original's spirit while updating it for contemporary systems including Switch, PC, and other platforms. Alongside a complete visual overhaul, the remaster introduces a new roguelite mode to the classic formula. Reception has been mixed, with some praising the effort to balance preservation and modernization, while others found the revisit less successful than anticipated.
