About
id Software's 2016 reboot of DOOM established itself as a landmark shooter combining methodical combat with high-octane action across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The studio has recently found itself in the spotlight following substantial layoffs implemented as part of Xbox's divisional restructuring. In response to these cuts, id Software has sought to reassure observers that its remaining workforce is roughly equivalent in size to the team that developed the original 2016 release, suggesting the studio retains core capability despite the reduction. The company has committed to maintaining a presence at QuakeCon 2026 and pledged support for affected employees, though industry observers remain watchful regarding the studio's operational capacity moving forward.
