About
Granblue Fantasy is a Japanese role-playing video game. The game plays as a traditional Japanese role-playing video game with turn-based battles. The game also contains summons and a class system that alters the main character's move-set and growth. Characters gain levels and abilities by accruing experience; summons and weapons equipped also confer characters with bonuses on attack power and HP. The characters themselves are gained either via quests (the main story quests or special event quests) or by using in-game currency to receive random crystal fragments, which may contain special weapons that add specific characters to the party. Characters, summons, and weapons are ranked (from best to worst) as SSR, SR, R, or N; each is also of type wind, water, fire, earth, light, or darkness. Voice actors provide voices for all of the characters in battle, and for much of the main and event storylines.
Story
"There exists a world in which islands of all shapes and sizes float in a sea of clouds. This is a world forsaken by the gods. A long time ago, beings known as the Astrals attempted to seize control of this world with their overwhelming power. However, the citizens of the skies, the Skydwellers, successfully resisted. The world once again entered a time of peace. Presently, our hero is about to embark on a journey after receiving a letter from his missing father. Accompanying him is Vyrn, a rather peculiar family member who happens to be a winged lizard. Despite Vyrn's objections, our hero prepares to leave his home of Zinkenstill when the mysterious island is suddenly engulfed in flames. The fleet of the burgeoning Erste Empire wreaks havoc from the skies above. Amidst the chaos, a chance encounter with a mysterious girl named Lyria awakens the fallen dragon of the stars, who unleashes a roar of revival."
What is happening now
Granblue Fantasy is a long-running turn-based RPG that has maintained a presence across mobile and PC since 2014. The action-heavy party JRPG has recently expanded with the Endless Ragnarok content, which has drawn renewed attention to the overall experience following its release across platforms including Nintendo Switch 2. The Endless Ragnarok expansion continues to receive active support, with a day one patch already deployed and ongoing systems explanations for returning and new players. The expansion has been substantial enough to prompt coverage reassessing the base game's quality, suggesting it had been underrated before the major update. Meanwhile, composer Tsutomu Narita departed Cygames' sound team after twelve years but will remain involved in contributing music to the franchise.
