Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a long-running strategy series from Koei Tecmo, originally released in 1985 and spanning multiple platforms across decades. The franchise has remained a staple of tactical gaming, with entries exploring the turbulent period of Chinese history through turn-based strategy gameplay. Koei Tecmo recently announced a new, unannounced project tied to the series' 40th anniversary, which will be teased during Tokyo Game Show 2026. Details remain sparse, but the announcement signals the publisher's continued commitment to the franchise as it approaches its milestone.
