Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's upcoming beta, arriving later this month across all platforms including Switch 2, will break from series tradition by including a single-player campaign mission alongside the usual multiplayer offerings. Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed the inclusion of this "Entrenched" mission as part of the pre-release testing, marking a notable departure from past Call of Duty betas that typically confined players to multiplayer maps and modes only.
The decision to open campaign content during beta testing represents an experimental approach for Xbox and the franchise, allowing players to sample story-driven gameplay ahead of launch. Combined with multiple multiplayer modes also in the beta rotation, the expanded scope suggests developers want broader feedback on various game systems before release.
- Modern Warfare 4's end-of-month beta includes campaign mission "Entrenched" alongside multiplayer, a first for Call of Duty pre-release testing.
- All platforms participate, including the newly supported Switch 2.
- The expanded beta format signals a shift from the series' typical multiplayer-only beta approach.
