Set in 2101, the game follows the signing of a peace treaty between the United Nations and CATS, an alien cyborg. However, CATS breaks the covenant and takes control of the Japanese space colonies. The protagonist Trent leads a ZIG space craft, which had managed to escape from the mothership destroyed by CATS, with the aim to defeat enemy forces, avenge the mothership and its crew and liberate the Earth.
Zero Wing is a 1989 arcade shooter from Toaplan that became a cultural artifact largely due to its infamous English localization, particularly its garbled opening dialogue. Originally released in arcades, the game has since appeared on numerous platforms including Sega Genesis, PC Engine, and modern systems.
The game is gaining renewed attention following news that homebrew developer h0ffman is working on a Neo Geo port. h0ffman, known for previous Neo Geo conversions of other classic titles, has begun development on this version, which represents another addition to the growing catalog of retro arcade games being adapted for SNK's hardware. The port remains in early stages of development.
