The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an open-world action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red. Set in a dark fantasy world, the game follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter searching for his adopted daughter, Ciri, while navigating political conflicts and supernatural threats. Gameplay features exploration, combat, character progression, and branching narratives shaped by player choices. Widely acclaimed for its writing, world-building, and depth, it is considered one of the most influential RPGs of its generation.

Story

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the story of the witcher Geralt of Rivia, the series' protagonist, whose story to date has been covered in the previous installments. Geralt's new mission comes in dark times as the mysterious and otherworldly army known as the Wild Hunt invades the Northern Kingdoms, leaving only blood soaked earth and fiery ruin in its wake; and it seems the Witcher is the key to stopping their cataclysmic rampage.

What is happening now

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains one of gaming's most enduring RPGs, available across current and last-gen consoles as well as PC and Switch. The sprawling fantasy adventure from CD Projekt Red continues to receive support years after its 2015 debut, most recently through a comprehensive remaster that modernized its visuals and gameplay systems. The studio has now revealed that the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, relies fundamentally on improvements introduced in that remaster. According to CD Projekt Red, the new area would not have been feasible to develop under the game's original technical constraints - the developers encountered significant limitations when prototyping the zone's layout and traversal, problems that the remaster's enhancements made solvable. This suggests Songs of the Past represents a more ambitious scope than what the aging codebase could previously accommodate.
