About
Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake arrived on PC and PlayStation in 2020 as an action-RPG reimagining of the classic 1997 original. The project has evolved into a multi-part trilogy, with the second entry now available and future installments planned. Recent developments have kept the remake's ecosystem active across multiple fronts. A modder released visual enhancements for the PC version addressing lighting issues in the open world. Square Enix announced that Ever Crisis, a mobile entry in the remake universe, will shut down service in October 2026. Meanwhile, the upcoming third entry is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion will feature a collaboration with the remake team, and Square Enix has shared new footage of the trilogy overall, suggesting the saga continues to evolve beyond its original scope.
