What is happening now

Crazy Taxi is returning with World Tour, a long-awaited reboot that significantly expands the arcade classic's formula. The new entry introduces multiplayer modes where players compete as rival cabbies vying for passengers within shared city spaces - a competitive dimension the series hasn't explored before. SEGA is preparing a closed network test in September across PS5 and other platforms ahead of a full 2027 release on Nintendo Switch 2 and elsewhere. Early previews indicate World Tour strips away modern conveniences like skill trees and crafting systems, keeping the straightforward arcade action intact, though some coverage questions whether the new "world" scope delivers meaningful variety beyond familiar mechanics. The game brings back the series' distinctive soundtrack. Series creator Kenji Kanno has hinted at further announcements still to come as the project moves toward its full launch.
