TRAILS is a cozy puzzle game in which players guide sandships across a crumbling desert to reach isolated outposts. Players draw lines on a grid in order to plot the movement of ships that cannot selfintersect or visit a tile twice. When done drawing they can start the simulation and see the outcome their routs produced. If the ships reach their goal without collision and while satisfying all victory conditions they win and advance to the next level. Over the course of the game more and more interacting mechanics get added to the game, requiring players to supply outposts with vital cargo, unlock new passages, juggle items, avoid hostile drones and support allied ships.

What is happening now

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter launched in May 2025 as a puzzle game across PC, Mac, and Linux. The title marks Falcom's first simultaneous worldwide release, a notable shift for the developer that company leadership has since reflected upon. Anticipation has been building around the forthcoming 2nd Chapter, which recently showcased over an hour of prologue gameplay footage to Asian outlets. Developer Falcom has detailed expanded character rosters, fishing mechanics, and a new Viewer Mode for the sequel.
