Pokémon Bank, the cloud storage service launched alongside the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, will shut down on February 26, 2027. The app, which was delisted in 2023 but continued operating as a free service, serves as a critical bridge for transferring Pokémon from older games to the Switch generation via Pokémon Home. Players have roughly 200 days to migrate their stored Pokémon before access is permanently lost.
The announcement marks the final disconnection point between the 3DS era and current games. To ease the transition, The Pokémon Company is adding Pokémon HOME compatibility to the upcoming Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen in October 2026, providing an additional transfer pathway before Bank's closure. The shutdown effectively ends an era of hardware connectivity that defined Pokémon's multi-generational appeal for over a decade.
