Story

On July 24, 1998, when a series of bizarre murders occur on the outskirts of the Midwestern town of Raccoon City, the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. team are assigned to investigate. After contact with Bravo Team is lost, Alpha Team is sent to investigate their disappearance. Alpha Team locates Bravo Team's crashed helicopter and land at the site, where they are suddenly attacked by a pack of monstrous dogs, killing one of the team's members. After Alpha Team's helicopter pilot, Brad Vickers, panics and takes off alone, the remaining members of the team (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Barry Burton) are forced to seek refuge in a nearby abandoned mansion. It soon becomes very clear that it isn't just any mansion, but a hellish place where the undead walk the corridors and other horrors are lurking in the darkness, waiting to eat some heads.

Resident Evil began as a genre-defining survival horror game in 1996 that blended shooter, puzzle, and adventure mechanics. Three decades later, the franchise remains active across gaming and film.

The recent wave of coverage centers on the theatrical debut of Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie, which has generated significant critical attention and commercial momentum. The film opened to strong preview numbers and critical reception, with reviewers praising its balance of scares and humor alongside its respect for the source material. Meanwhile, the gaming side continues to thrive - Capcom ran a 30th anniversary fan poll to determine the franchise's most beloved characters, while recent entries like Resident Evil Village's Gold Edition and acclaimed PS4/PS5 titles remain heavily discounted. The movie adaptation's success has also sparked broader franchise discussion, including retrospectives ranking the series' eight films and interviews with voice actors from the games reflecting on the cinematic adaptation.
