Story
England, 1985. Private investigator Miles Windham is asked to help the local police on a missing persons investigation on Velvet Island. But once he arrives on the island, he soon realizes that the residents are behaving strangely. Nobody seems to be interested in clearing up the case. In fact, there is a growing hostility towards the investigator that feels as though it is becoming stronger by the minute. It doesn't take long until the situation escalates and Miles finds himself in a struggle for his own survival.

Dead of Darkness is a survival horror adventure that launched in January 2025 across modern consoles and PC. The game's indie roots and isometric perspective have already drawn comparisons to classic survival horror design, establishing a distinct retro-influenced identity in the genre. Developer Retrofiction Games has announced Dead of Darkness 2, continuing the series across PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The sequel maintains the franchise's 2D isometric approach with sprite-based visuals, styled after what survival horror might have looked like on 16-bit hardware. The announcement suggests the original has found an audience receptive to its nostalgic take on survival horror mechanics.
