Team17 planned on producing Worms for the Virtual Boy back in 1995. Though after a few weeks, they cancelled this plan due to the lack of interest of the publisher and the expected failure of the Virtual Boy.

Meanwhile, Team17 is developing Worms: Galactic Tactics, a roguelike take on the formula arriving in 2027, which critics have noted successfully translates the series' unpredictable warfare into a turn-based grid-strategy format reminiscent of XCOM. A classic remake targeting longtime fans is also reportedly in the works, and the board game adaptation continues to find retail interest.
