Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the return of Capcom's samurai action series after two decades away. The action-RPG relocates the franchise to Japan's Edo period, centering on the historical figure Miyamoto Musashi as its protagonist. While standalone in narrative, the game incorporates thematic homages to its predecessors while reimagining familiar enemy types with fresh variations.

The game has been in active pre-release promotion ahead of its September 2026 launch. Capcom released a PC benchmark tool allowing players to test system compatibility, and handled a Switch 2 preorder correction after early cancellations. Coverage has focused on the developer's design philosophy, including the shift away from puzzle boxes in favor of larger environmental puzzles, the removal of minigames, and efforts to make the title accessible to a broad audience. Producer Akihito Kadowaki has discussed the lengthy development timeline, attributing delays to assembling the necessary team for the revival.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Mod Enables RTGI and RTAO

One of my biggest criticisms of Onimusha: Way of the Sword was its graphics. Although the game uses the RE Engine, it did not take full advantage of its Ray Tracing capabilities. As a result, it looked really flat. But now, a modder has overhauled the game by unlocking Ray Tracin…

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Review – A cut above the rest

Onimusha has come a long way since the days of being “Resident Evil but with Swords”. There are still nods to the series’ horror roots — Japan has never shied away from body horror — but as the first new game in two decades, Onimusha: Way of the Sword adopts a more modern approac…
